Euro accounts from U.S.

I am curious, can you go to any banks in the U.S. and ask to open an account in Euros?

-Or- Can you go to any bank in the U.S. have them open an account on your behalf thru one of their foreign branches?

e.g., go to Citibank (US) and have them open an account for you in Pounds or Euros with Citibank UK?

This would be a very easy way to potentially bypass gambling restrictions.

Not to mention the ability to move your savings out of the falling US dollar.

I don't know what you can or can't do with American banks but I would recommend you go to Panama to setup one of those EU accounts. I wouldn't want to have my money in USD right now and I am in the process of changing this too.

I'm aware, I have bank accounts in Panama and Costa Rica.

I was curious from the perspective of the average American bettor, whether they could easily get a Euro account that would bypass potential transaction blocking/coding -- with the side benefit of getting money out of the sliding dollar.

There was an online bank in San Francisco offering Euro accounts some time ago, can't recal the name.

I do bet you can go to Citibank, and with a well worded excuse open a Citibank UK account linked to your Citibank US account.

I see, well for someone who is most likely in the states I am not sure what options they have and if that bank can avoid having the transactions detected as gaming. I think HSBC can let you open an account in euros or pounds but not 100% sure on that one. I think some of the Canadian banks will let Americans get an account, think what is required is to apply and mail in some forms and you could get a Canadian currency account but I think something in euros would be the best. Haven't used HSBC but they seem to be a fairly international bank and I think I can open a savings account in 4 or 5 different currencies.
